Capoeira
Capoeira: Combat, Culture, and the Roda
Capoeira is a powerful Afro-Brazilian martial art characterized by fluid, acrobatic movements, high-speed kicks, and a strong musical and historical component. Born from a tradition of struggle, it is practiced in a circle called a Roda (pronounced ho-da) and governed by the rhythm of the Berimbau instrument.
Our Capoeira category is broken down into two essential disciplines to help you master every aspect of the art:
Combat & Technique: This section covers the martial arts side of Capoeira. Learn the fundamental techniques, including attack movements (like the Rasteira and Meia Lua de Compasso), defense, and evasive sweeps. Explore the various styles, from the low, traditional movements of Capoeira Angola to the high-flying techniques of Capoeira Regional.
Art, Culture & Fitness: This section focuses on the non-combat elements that make Capoeira a complete discipline. Discover the history, philosophy, and music of the Roda, including the key instruments and Portuguese call-and-response songs. Find out how Capoeira serves as a challenging full-body fitness workout that builds incredible strength, flexibility, and rhythm.
